Charitable Gifting at Year End – Tips and Rules

Gifts to Charity Donation Tax Return

To insure your charitable donation counts as a tax deduction for 2013, it is advisable to allow enough time for the charitable organization to deposit your check in 2013. You can deliver a certified check to the organization by December 31st and it will count as a 2013 donation. If you are making donations late, I recommend you detail on the payment it is a 2013 Donation. This will help insure the charitable organization properly documents their records and your receipt will be properly reflected for the correct period. Bank charge card transactions made by December 31st will count as a 2013 donation even though you do not pay the credit card bill until next year.  Charges made on a retail charge card for charity gifting are deductible in the tax year you pay the bill.

Donating to Charity

Paying it forward with your charitable giving provides a larger blessing than a tax deduction. You will be making a difference in someone’s world!
